Los Angeles California is the land of lights & fame. Throughout most of the city of LA and the numerous subdivisions that surround LA, you can literally find any kind of goods or service imaginable. What a lot of people don’t know is how big the hair transplant and hair restoration industry is in Los Angeles. In fact, there are LA hair institute clinics all over the Los Angeles area that are all competing with each other for customers.
Here at Best Hair Transplant Los Angeles, our LA hair institute has revolutionized the hair transplant industry by offering some of the lowest prices for FUE and FUT hair transplant surgeries. Most LA hair institutes have tricky pricing strictures that say things like xx dollars per graft for the first 1,000 hair grafts! What most folks don’t know is the majority of hair transplants require a lot more grafts than just 1,000 and the price per graft up to that 1,000 may seem great, but the increase in price after that 1,000-graft mark doesn’t make it such a good deal in the long run after all.
Another thing that a lot of people need to understand is the difference between an FUE and an FUT hair transplant surgery, especially when it comes to the pricing structure. Each procedure has its pros & cons. In other words, FUE surgery may not be the right procedure for you, while FUT surgery may be a better option.
The Difference Between FUT and FUE
The Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) hair restoration procedure is a technique that replaced the old “hair plug transplant.” Back in the beginning days of hair transplants, surgeons would remove large portions of the hair-bearing scalp using a “hole punch” type tool. They would then punch out another hole in the scalp in the bald area and replace it with the hair-bearing scalp. They would generally just discard the bald scalp tissue. While this sounds like a scene from a bad horror movie, this was how hair transplants were done for many years.
Needless to say, the results from the hair plug technique left a lot to be desired. When the FUT technique came along it was a much-needed revision of the hair restoration industry. A FUT hair transplant involves the surgeon extracting a “strip” of hair-bearing scalp from the specified donor area. Then the strip of scalp is sliced down into multiple, individual hair follicles that are then implanted into the bald area of the scalp. This method made the end result of the transplant look much more natural than hair plugs as there was less space between the transplanted hair follicles.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a more modern hair transplant technique that is offered by our LA hair institute along with FUT. The FUE method is more precise in the extraction process as each and every hair follicle is extracted individually, instead of in strips. Using the FUE method each extracted hair follicle will hold between 1 and 3 individual hairs.
The Pros and Cons of FUT vs FUE
The FUT technique involves a much quicker extraction session as the hair follicles are removed from the donor areas in strips instead of individual follicles. These strips are then sliced down into smaller portions to be processed and then implanted. This method often leaves a strip-shaped scar along the donor area, that has a tendency to stand out on the scalp. Also, there is a lot more post-procedure discomfort from the extraction process in a FUT surgery than in an FUE procedure.
When a patient undergoes an FUE hair transplant, the individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area. This process generally leaves small pin-prick-sized scars, if any scars remain at all. Then after extraction, the hair follicles are processed in a similar manner to the FUT technique prior to impanation.
The FUE procedure offered by our LA hair institute takes more time to accomplish than the FUT method. Also, there is less post-procedure discomfort using FUE. Additionally, you’ll experience a quicker recovery time. It’s for these reasons the FUE method has quickly become to most popular hair transplant technique in recent years.
This doesn’t mean that the FUT technique is obsolete. Far from it! There are certain situations where the FUT method is called for. For instance, if the hair loss is so advanced that the only hair that can be used as donor hair is very thin, then the FUT method would be called for as extraction using the FUE technique would be near impossible. Also, if the patient needs multiple hair restoration surgeries, FUT is often selected alongside FUE.
Watch Out for Other LA Hair Institutes
Here in LA you can throw a dart at a map of the metro area and be hard-pressed not to hit a facility offering some kind of hair restoration service. There are so many different gimmicks and pitches you’re going to hear. You’re going to have to wade through some muck if you don’t know exactly what you are looking for.
Some places offer to tattoo your scalp to create an illusion of thicker fuller hair. Others just flat out try to sell you a hairpiece. Then, even if you do find a clinic offering FUE and FUT hair transplant procedures, surgeries may be performed by a dermatologist. Not a hair transplant specialist. Dermatologists are great if you need a wart removed. However, you might not want to trust your hair transplant to someone who has only performed the procedure a handful of times. Here at Best Hair, our specialists make hair transplants their business. We make sure our staff is up to date on all of the latest research and techniques so that your experience here at our LA hair institute is the top of the line.
Watch out for the tricky pricing strictures offered by other clinics. Some offer a flat rate for up to a certain number of graphs. However, they also jack the price up the pricing to make sure it look like a deal. However, it really isn’t. In fact, it’s just a sales tactic. We could name names right now, but if you’ve heard of hair transplants, we probably don’t need to. Finally, there are others with super complicated mathematical formulas designed to confuse you. Even when you do find a hair transplant specialist, the doctor may charge outrageous amounts just based on their ego.
