How Much Does a Minimal Hair Transplant Cost?

For patients that are looking for a minimal hair transplant cost can vary widely depending on the clinic you choose. At Best Hair Transplant we are proud to offer the best rates in the LA area as well as the highest quality hair restoration services. In this article, we will discuss the reasons why a patient may opt for a minimal hair transplant, the cost associated with this procedure, and what to expect as you go through the process from consultation to recovery.

What Is A Minimal Hair Transplant?

A minimal hair transplant is a great option for a patient that is interested in altering the shape of their hairline. This could be due to hairline recession and thinning hair, or it could be for cosmetic reasons. Changing the shape of the hairline can enhance one’s other facial features to their best advantage.

Transgender patients that are in the middle of their gender confirmation journey often choose to incorporate hair transplantation surgery in order to reshape their hairline for a look that aligns with their true identity. Minimal hair transplants can also apply to some facial hair transplantation procedures too, especially when the aim is to fill in the density of existing facial hair.

How Do I Know If I Need A Minimal Hair Transplant?

When it comes to determining what qualifies as a minimal hair transplant, it is helpful to refer to the Norwood scale. The Norwood Scale was created as an easy to reference guide with imagery that that can help a doctor determine which stage of hair loss a patient is at, compared to what is typical for each stage of balding. This can also be helpful for determining approximately how many follicular grafts will be necessary for a successful hair transplant. A minimal hair transplant would require approximately 1000 follicular grafts or less.

Norwood Scale Stages 1-2

The Norwood Scale is broken into seven stages. Each stage describes the pattern of hair loss and its severity. Stage one displays no significantly visible hair loss or recession of the hairline. At this stage, it’s unnecessary to have a hair transplant. At Stage 2 there is a slight recession of the hairline, and the hair might be thinning at the temples. This is sometimes known as a mature, or adult hairline. That’s because as we age, a certain amount of hair thinning is normal. Some patients will wish to undergo a transplant at this stage, especially if they are at a hair class 2a where the center front of the hairline displays more obvious thinning.

As a general estimate, it will take between 500-800 follicular grafts for patients on the 2 or 2a of the Norwood Scale. Getting a transplant at this stage is a great way to increase the fullness of the hair around the face, improving the symmetry of the hairline. This is also the ideal stage for getting a minimal hair transplant. As we go up on the Norwood scale a patient will most likely require more than 1,000 grafts.

Norwood Scale Stages 3-4

For example, a patient at Stage 3 on the Norwood Scale displays the first signs of clinically significant hair loss. By this stage, the hairline is deeply recessed from the temples. As a result, the hair will have a pattern that resembles the shape of either an M, U, or V. The receded areas will either be completely bald or have very sparse hair with a lot of scalp visible.

A Hamilton-Norwood Scale & hair class of 3a will also include significant hair loss at the vertex or top of the scalp. A patient with a Norwood 3 will normally require anywhere from 1,000-1,400 follicular grafts. At this stage, the hair at the back of the head is evaluated to determine that there are enough adequate grafts to harvest for transplanting at the back of the head.

When it comes to a Norwood scale of 4 or higher it will be necessary to transplant more than 1000 grafts, and would no longer be considered a minimal hair transplant.

What Does A Minimal Hair Transplant Cost?

At Best Hair Transplant we price our services by the number of grafts transplanted. We offer the best price in the LA area at only $5 per graft! By comparison, the rates between competing hair clinics range anywhere from $6 to $12 per graft for the same service! Some of these clinics only perform transplants with the help of robotics. At Best Hair transplant, we perform all of our surgeries by hand.

The first step in determining whether you are a good candidate for a minimal hair transplant, and to get a cost estimate is to schedule a complimentary consultation. We’re a COVID cautious company. That’s why we conduct consults virtually or in person. During this consultation, you and the doctor will discuss your medical history, desired results, and estimated costs. If you decide to move forward with booking your surgery, then you can schedule your procedure.

Additional Hair Transplant Information

FUE is most often employed as the best technique for minimal hair transplants. Follicular grafts will be removed from the back of your head individually, and transplanted in the recipient area. This is an outpatient procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and feel ready to resume their normal life within the first few days following surgery. There are specific aftercare instructions that you will need to follow for the first two weeks of your recovery. These will include no hats, helmets, or wigs while your scalp heals. You will also be asked to refrain from smoking, exercising, swimming, and getting direct sun exposure until your transplant has healed to prevent infection.

It will take as long as a year for your hair transplants to grow out after surgery. In the first month or so following surgery, the newly transplanted hair will fall out before your new hair grows in. This is completely normal and a sign that your transplant was a success. Many patients choose to incorporate Minoxidol or low-level laser therapy with laser caps to help encourage the growth of their transplants. This is not necessary but it is certainly something you can discuss with your doctor as far as your long-term treatment plan.

At Best Hair transplant you will be able to get the best price possible on minimal hair transplants.
